Insect Night Collection

In the old times a bug showing up in one’s field of view was considered to be an omen. Seeing a butterfly approaching, one had to make a quick choice – run away or bravely accept the oracular prophecy. A white butterfly in the spring brought misfortune, a multicolored one – adventure, a black one – trouble and a yellow one – all the best. Easy!
Had our smart ancestors practiced collecting insects at night, this folk wisdom would have been paraphrased as day and night butterflies fly differently. By taking part in this collecting event you will find out which nocturnal butterflies and moths show up for the bright light shining in the dark.

NB! The butterfly of 2017 is, in fact, a moth – the blue underwing.
